I respectfully disagree. Get back to me when you can make a better adaption that not only pulls in $51.1mill in its opening weekend, but doesn’t get criticized. Impossible, yes? The fact that Fitzgerald’s granddaughter likes it also helps.

Also a 32% among top critics on Rotten Tomatoes. So tell me how its not getting criticized? It has become a running joke of late night talk show hosts. The whole thing is a two and a half hour Ralph Lauren commercial. I was so bored the entire time. It raked in that much because people like me said “well it can’t be that bad” and then it was. People had such low expectations that I heard people leaving the theater saying “well, I mean it could have been worse.” Put all that on top of Baz Luhrmann always putting media that doesn’t fit the time period. That will always drive me nuts. And Fitzgeralds Granddaughter isn’t him though. She’s not known around the world. The whole movie was just awkward and awful. I’ve never been so disinterested in a movie theater.

Everybody knows that the Great Gatsby was an awful movie right? They spent all their budget on party scenes and used a bad green screen feature other times. They used corny typing in the sky. They would change cameras every two seconds so it gives you a headache. Leo used “Old Sport” way way way way too much. They ventured from the plot too often. They had a soundtrack that didn’t fit the movie. They over exaggerated everything. They focused on parts of the story that weren’t that important, They would say the same thing over and over. They didn’t show the little girl until the end (the situation would be way worse if you know that she had a girl the whole time). This is just the beginning to my rant. Baz Luhrmann should never be allowed to touch another movie!
